Kino Lorber has nabbed all U.S. rights to Philippe Faucon’s Fatima, a critically acclaimed drama based on the experiences of North African writer Fatima Elayoubi in France. Fatima explores the life of a single mother from Morocco who works cleaning jobs to pay for her daughters’ school. She faces overt and veiled racism, and pressure to assimilate into French culture. After a world premiere at last year’s Cannes Film Festival (Directors’ Fortnight), the film will make its U.S. debut at the upcoming Rendez-Vous with French Cinema. The following month, Fatima will have its West Coast premiere at COLCOA, the Los Angeles-based French film festival. Fatima won France’s Prix Louis-Delluc award (Best Film). Kino Lorber is planning a national theatrical release for the film.
