The TV comedy Seinfeld went off NBC’s airwaves in May 1998 after its nine-season run, and today, according to rating service, Nielsen, almost decades after it aired, 72 million people watched in syndication at least one Seinfeld episode in the first months of 2026.

Reportedly, Seinfeld has fetched over $4.5 billion in syndicated and home video revenue since it went off air 28 years ago.

The show began in 1989. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld negotiated with the show production company, Castle Rock Entertainment (now owned by Warner Bros.), a 15 percent of syndication profits. In late 1997, Seinfeld had already sold its first syndication cycle, which fetched $500 million in revenue. The show’s second syndication cycle in 1988 revenue reached $1 billion. In today’s streaming era, Netflix paid $500 million for five-year streaming rights in 2019 and recently renewed the deal for a similar amount.
