Australian broadcaster 5 has come on board for Fremantle’s Wentworth: Beyond Bars, a continuation of prison drama Wentworth, exploring life beyond the prison gates.
For eight seasons, Wentworth took audiences behind the walls of an Australian women’s prison, where the only currency was power and survival meant trusting no one.
In this new installment of the franchise, the story continues beyond the prison walls, where the world outside proves just as unforgiving as the one left behind. Susan ‘Boomer’ Jenkins is finally on parole, determined to rebuild her life and reunite with her daughter. But freedom proves just as dangerous as prison.
Production of the series began in July in Melbourne. It will premiere in the U.K. exclusively on 5 later this year. In Australia, it will be available on Binge in late 2026 with the title Wentworth: Halfway Home.
Wentworth: Beyond Bars is a Fremantle Australia production for DAZN’s Binge, with major production investment from Foxtel and Screen Australia. The series is financed in association with VicScreen. Foxtel handles Australian distribution and Fremantle handles international sales.
