The 12th edition of MIA (Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo – International Audiovisual Market) took place October 19-23 in Rome, Italy, hosted at Palazzo Barberini, and drawing 2,800 film and television professionals from 64 countries.

Organized by ANICA (National Association of Film, Audiovisual and Digital Industries) and APA (Audiovisual Producers Association), the event kicked off with the launch of the “European Investment Hub,” a new platform dedicated to financial instruments that support the audiovisual industry in Europe and internationally.

In a shift from previous editions, traditional content exhibitor stands at Palazzo Barberini were replaced with meeting tables at the nearby Hotel Excelsior, resulting in a reduced number of exhibiting companies.

In addition, this year’s market took place after MIPCOM in Cannes. In contrast, last year’s October 6 start preceded the Cannes TV market, driving more participants to MIA. Organizers attributed the date change to aligning with the Festa del Cinema di Roma (Rome Film Fest) — the 21st annual film festival held October 13-25 at Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica — with the hope of increasing visibility for the film festival.

As is typical in much of Europe, film is often viewed as a more prestigious art form than television, even as TV companies and programming are increasingly used to attract more people to film events.
