A Swiss millionaire who aspires to become a Hollywood producer is the subject of an article published in The Wall Street Journal on October 22, 2026.
The New York-based newspaper did not pull its punches in its portrayal of 49-year-old Swiss national Simon Afram, who spent $45 million of his own money to produce Fortitude, a film that, according to the Journal, no one in Hollywood wants to touch. The newspaper also described his approach to filmmaking as unconventional.
Afram sued Martin Scorsese, alleging that the filmmaker had failed to reach out to potential filmmakers and actors as promised. He also sued Netflix for $105 million, alleging, among other things, breach of contract.
The Journal also noted that Afram had been a director of a now-liquidated Swiss luxury-goods company. The newspaper further reported that Afram had described many of the assertions in its article as inaccurate and misleading.
