The BBC has acquired the adaptation of crime drama Wallander from Banijay Rights.
The series sees Vikings star Gustaf Skarsgård take on the role of the eponymous detective. Produced by Jarowskij/YellowBird, part of Banijay Nordic, the three-part Swedish-language adaptation for TV4 will be available for U.K. audiences on BBC iPlayer and BBC Four.
Newly separated after two decades of marriage and estranged from his daughter, Kurt Wallander is pushed to the limits as he confronts high-stakes cases, while navigating personal collapse.
The series has been commissioned by TV4 in collaboration with Banijay Rights, ARD Degeto, Film i Skåne and Ystad Österlen Filmfond.
Banijay Rights has secured further international sales to MHz Choice in the U.S. and Canada, while in EMEA the drama has been acquired by NPO in the Netherlands, VRT in Belgium, HRT in Croatia and LNK in Lithuania.
Wallander joins MIA’s GreenLit showcase in Rome this week, with an exclusive market preview.
