Earlier today, Italy’s APA (Italian Producers Association) held a presentation of its eighth Report on National Audiovisual Production during MIA market in Rome.
The report revealed a market that continues to expand despite growing concerns over investment and the uncertainty surrounding public funding.Italy’s film and TV production spending fell by 7.4 percent in 2025 to €2 billion, its lowest level in seven years, according to APA. Spending on scripted film and television content declined by 5.5 percent to €740 million, largely due to uncertainty surrounding government funding reforms that led many producers to delay projects and face higher financing costs.
At the same time, the Italian audiovisual market continued to shift towards streaming, with online video’s market share rising from 21 percent in 2020 to 43 percent. Despite the decline in production spending, the sector generated €16.8 billion in revenue in 2025, up 3.1 percent year-on-year, driven by growth in both free and paid online video services.
