Amazon’s Prime Video will be the new home of the primetime Emmy Awards starting in 2027, as another Hollywood awards show abandons broadcast television.
Under the terms of a new deal with the Television Academy, Prime Video will carry the awards show for six years and have global rights.
Previously, the Emmys rotated annually among the four major broadcast networks — ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC — with the annual rights valued at approximately $9.5 million, excluding production costs, which are shouldered by the rights holder.
Amazon plans to keep the Emmys available to non-Prime subscribers, allowing them to watch the ceremony for free.
