Once the upcoming edition of MIPCOM 2026 has concluded, the City of Cannes will begin an extensive renovation of the seafront promenade — the first in more than 60 years. MIPCOM attendees will likely notice pre-construction preparations, which are expected to begin in about two weeks.
Construction will affect the area between Rue Macé and Blvd. Alexandre III — basically, from the Gray d’Albion hotel to just past the Martinez.
The work was originally planned to begin in November 2024 and was expected to conclude by the end of 2025, but the project was called off after bids came in significantly higher than the City had estimated.
The current project will widen pedestrian areas, add new benches and alter some of the landscaping. A separate two-way cycleway, separated from other road traffic, will also be built, along with changes to pedestrian crossings, the addition of video surveillance and upgrades to street lighting.
Overall plans eventually call for a reflecting pool at the foot of the Palais des Festivals, although no date has been provided for that work. An open-air Théâtre de la Mer is also planned for Square du 8-Mai-1945, past the Martinez.
The City points out that construction will cease for the duration of the 2027 Cannes Film Festival.
