CBS News, part of Paramount Skydance, is preparing for the 59th season of 60 Minutes after rebuilding its roster of correspondents. The popular newsmagazine has gone through several defections and lost some of its appeal following Paramount’s installation of Bari Weiss as CBS News editor-in-chief. Weiss has made changes to the newsmagazine’s editorial direction.

Nonetheless, 60 Minutes remains a profit center for CBS, generating roughly $100 million in annual revenue on a budget of about $60 million.

The new incarnation of 60 Minutes is being overseen by Nick Bilton, a former correspondent for The New York Times who has relatively little experience in television news. According to published reports, the program’s new focus will be more technology-oriented than political. Some 35 stories are reportedly being produced, with another 60 in development.
