On the one hand, supporters of President Donald Trump are threatening to leave Hollywood if California does not support Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery; on the other hand, President Trump is rallying his fans to support Hollywood.

Last Monday, President Trump wrote on Truth Social: “I’m going to suggest that Republicans and Democrats get together, and immediately craft Legislation to save the Movie, Television, and Entertainment Business in America. Congress should approve, immediately, a Federal Production Incentive to create Entertainment Jobs in America.”

Last year, California Governor Gavin Newsom, a potential U.S. presidential candidate, proposed a $7.5 billion federal tax credit for Hollywood.

In a commentary, The Wall Street Journal criticized President Trump’s proposed Hollywood bailout with an article titled “Make Mark Ruffalo Great Again,” a reference to the American actor Mark Ruffalo, an outspoken progressive and supporter of Democratic causes. The argument is that a Trump-backed Hollywood bailout could end up benefiting the very liberal Hollywood institutions that his political movement has long criticized.
