The first Pokémon animated feature in several years is set to arrive in theaters in 2027.

Titled Pokémon: Wild Card, the movie was unveiled last night, August 30, during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco. The project is being developed in partnership with Japanese animation studio CloverWorks.

Pokémon: Wild Card follows a Pokémon TCG player and his partner, Mimikyu. As they prepare to put their skills and cards to the test, the pair must discover whether they have what it takes to accomplish their goals.

The most recent Pokémon feature film, Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, was released in Japan in 2020 before arriving in the U.S. the following year.

The theatrical launch is timed to align with Pokémon’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.
