MIPCOM announced China as the market’s 2018 Country of Honor.
The Cannes entertainment market will feature Country of Honor programming, which will include showcases of the latest Chinese series, as well as the Chinese-themed Opening Night Welcome Reception. As reported by IHS Markit, China has recently moved up as the second largest television market, having spent $10.9 billion on TV programming in 2017, which was below the U.S. but above the U.K.
Laurine Garaude, Reed MIDEM’s TV Division director, remarked, “We anticipate that the trend towards Chinese content being exported to international territories will speed up over the next two to three years and we are very keen for MIPCOM and MIPTV to be part of that process.”
