Last night’s 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, broke several records. Game of Thrones took home the highest number of Emmy Awards won by a fictional series (the previous record was held by Frasier). Rami Malek, star of Mr. Robot, became the first person of color in 18 years to win the Emmy for best leading actor. Julia Louis-Dreyfus snagged her sixth lead comedy actress award, her fifth for her role in Veep. Another big winner was The People vs OJ Simpson, which was awarded five trophies, including outstanding limited series and acting recognition for Sterling K Brown, Courtney B Vance and Sarah Paulson. Netflix series Master of None scored its first Emmy for outstanding writing for a comedy series, and the show’s co-writer Alan Yang called for more on-screen Asian representation in his acceptance speech.
