Netflix isn’t growing as much as we’d like. Those are the words of Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of the streaming platform, spoken during “Bloomberg Screentime 2026,” the annual summit dedicated to the entertainment, pop culture, and media industries held last week in Los Angeles (September 30-October 1, 2026).

Sarandos revealed that global viewing hours increased by only 2 percent in the first half of 2026; however, he also emphasized that despite the slowdown in engagement growth (i.e., the total time users spend watching content), the company remains in excellent health.

He also announced that, precisely because of analysts’ strong focus on the slowdown in viewing hours, Netflix will change its transparency strategy: starting in 2027, it will publish data on viewing hours only once a year (in the first quarter), shifting the market’s focus to revenue and operating profits.
