Paris-based family content producer Cottonwood Media — founded in 2014 by David Michel, alongside Zoé Carrera Allaix and Cécile Laurenson — is entering a new chapter as the company regains its financial independence and expands its editorial scope.
In 2015, Cottonwood Media became a subsidiary of Federation Studios (formerly Federation Entertainment), which took a key stake in the production company. At the same time, David Michel joined Pascal Breton and Lionel Uzan as a co-founder of Federation.
Michel has now acquired Federation’s entire stake in Cottonwood Media, which will cease to operate as a subsidiary and return to full independence under his leadership, alongside partners Cécile Laurenson and Zoé Carrera Allaix.
Federation will continue to distribute Cottonwood Media’s existing catalog through its international sales division, Federation International. Under the new agreement, Federation will also retain a first-look right on the distribution of Cottonwood Media’s future productions.
