The president of French football club Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser al-Khelaifi, is under preliminary investigation in France on suspicion of a conflict of interest. The investigation, first reported by the Paris-based sports newspaper L’Équipe, was confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office.
The probe concerns Al-Khelaifi’s dual roles as president of Paris Saint-Germain and chairman of Doha-based beIN Media Group. Investigators are examining his participation in a July 2024 meeting concerning the attribution of Ligue 1 broadcasting rights, shortly after beIN Sports submitted a €100 million offer to broadcast one Ligue 1 match per week. The French professional football league, the LFP, subsequently accepted the offer.
Al-Khelaifi’s lawyer has denied the allegations, saying that his client acted independently, impartially and objectively. The preliminary investigation does not itself establish that any wrongdoing occurred.
