A reform of the Italian audiovisual industry has been approved by one branch of the Italian Parliament, and the Independent Audiovisual Union, or Autonomo Sindacato Audiovisivi (ASA), has welcomed the move.
“The approval of the reform represents a milestone of great significance for cinema and the entire audiovisual sector,” said ASA General Secretary Nicola De Toma.
Among the key elements of the reform, ASA considers the establishment of the Agency for Cinema and Audiovisual Media, tax credits, and the revitalization of movie theaters through initiatives aimed at restoring inactive or abandoned venues, as well as building new theaters to be particularly important.
“It is particularly significant,” De Toma emphasized, “that a cross-party consensus has emerged in the Chamber of Deputies around a reform concerning cinema and the audiovisual sector. We are dealing with a full-fledged industry capable of generating employment, investment, innovation, and economic value. For this reason, we believe it is essential that the next step in the Senate allows for the swift completion of the reform process.”
