David Y. Handelman, an accomplished entertainment industry executive, passed away on August 20, 2026, at the age of 88 from complications following a stroke. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 and earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1962. He began his career at the Securities and Exchange Commission before becoming General Counsel of Laird, Inc., a boutique brokerage firm.
In 1974, David relocated to Los Angeles to become Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Twentieth Century Fox. He later practiced entertainment law at Troy & Gould and subsequently operated a private practice specializing in digital media, broadcasting, entertainment, and intellectual property.
David and his wife of 66 years, Janet, maintained a second residence in New York City.
