The French film company Gaumont’s 130th anniversary is being celebrated in Hollywood at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures of Los Angeles.
Founded in 1895 (a year before the celebrated Pathé was established in Paris) by inventor Léon Gaumont (1864-1946), Gaumont is the world’s oldest film company still in existence.
Its most recent movie, The Taste of Things, was released in 2023.
The Museum’s retrospective, titled “Born With Cinema” and taking place September 11-October 11, 2025, will program 13 films, including The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928). Other movies include titles from 1934, 1953, 1967, and the 1991 Van Gogh.
