The NFL, the American Football League, is not happy with the Nielsen’s TV ratings because, it said, their metrics undercut viewers, which is a factor when negotiating for TV rights.

The NFL, whose new season begins this week, is now getting additional viewing data from measurement company VideoAmp.

The league has TV rights deals with Amazon, CBS, ESPN, NBC, and Netflix. However, the problem facing the league is said to stem from the fact that streaming services do not release their audience figures. In addition to Amazon and Netflix, their games are also streamed on NBC’s Peacock and CBS’ Paramount+.

Nielsen’s data doesn’t yet include audience data from the streaming services that carry the NFL games.
