João Roberto Marinho, the president of Brazil’s Grupo Globo, will receive the 2025 International Emmy Directorate Award at the International Emmy® Awards Gala in New York, on November 24 — as the company marks the centennial of Grupo Globo and the 60th anniversary of TV Globo.
“It is a great honor to receive this recognition from the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, especially in a year that marks our centennial. This journey began with my grandfather, Irineu Marinho, in 1925, and was boldly expanded by my father, Roberto Marinho, and my brother Roberto Irineu Marinho, both guided by two great passions: the passion for communication and for Brazil. Over the years, many of our productions have been recognized by the Academy for their quality, reinforcing our shared commitment to excellence. This award celebrates the talent, creativity, and dedication of all those who believe in the power of Brazilian storytelling and in professional journalism as an essential pillar of democracy,” said João Roberto Marinho.
João Roberto’s appointment to the presidency was accompanied by important changes with the arrival of the fourth generation of the Marinho family in leadership roles. During his tenure, Grupo Globo was officially declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the City of Rio de Janeiro. This recognizes the Group’s national and international contributions over a century, noting its fundamental role in promoting and strengthening Brazilian culture, disseminating information and shaping public opinion, impacting generations of citizens.
Globo’s programming is distributed to 160 territories in 70 languages.
