The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has earmarked $9.2 billion to fund construction of rural broadband networks over the next 10 years.

This is the biggest U.S. step to extend high-speed Internet service and provides incentives to complete the works earlier. The service covers more than five million homes in 49 states.
