Abacus Media Rights (AMR) inked North American deals for the CBC original series Trickster.
The CW Network will premiere the supernatural drama in the U.S. on January 12, 2021. AMC’s Sundance Now and Shudder will follow with the SVoD release of the Director’s Cut version after the completed broadcast run on The CW. The series has also been picked up by NITV and SBS On Demand in Australia and Globoplay in Brazil.
Produced by Sienna Films and Streel Films, Trickster follows an indigenous teenager who is struggling to keep his dysfunctional family above water. The series is based on the bestselling trilogy by Eden Robinson. CBC has greenlit a second season. The cast includes Joel Oulette and Crystle Lightning, among others.
Jonathan Ford, managing director of AMR, remarked, “With its focus on diversity and a unique form of storytelling Trickster will have strong appeal to global viewers particularly the elusive younger adult audience. We are delighted that North American audiences will have the opportunity to access the series on multiple platforms.”
