Buccaneer Media and Nevision signed a co-production deal to adapt M.G. Leonard’s Beetle Boy book trilogy into a live-action CGI drama series.
Developed in partnership with the creative studio Framestore, the multi-episode series will be written for the screen by Tom MacRae (pictured). The series follows Darkus and his friend Baxter as they embark on a quest to find Darkus’ father. Along the way, they come claw to claw with the renowned fashion designer, Lucretia Cutter, who has created a vast army of super-beetles to become the dominant species on the planet. Maya Leonard, Richard Tulk-Hart, and Tony Wood will serve as executive producers for Buccaneer Media, with Nigel Pickard and James Cabourne for Nevision.
Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart, joint CEOs of Buccaneer Media, stated, “We are thrilled to be collaborating with such a talented team to bring Maya’s Beetle Boy to life. It’s such a unique trilogy and Tom’s brilliant interpretation together with Framestore’s world leading CGI will make an exciting creative realization of a rich and engaging family adventure”
Nigel Pickard, creative director at Nevision, added, “Buccaneer is the perfect partner to help steer the creative development on Beetle Boy, which has the potential to reach a wide global audience. Tom MacRae’s track record is second-to-none and we are thrilled to have someone of his calibre writing the screenplay bringing his versatility and unique style to the project.”
