Alessandro Bettero’s documentary I bambini della Grande Guerra (The Children of the Great War) showcases the last remaining Italian witnesses to the First World War as fought on the Italian front.

Written, edited, and directed by Bettero (pictured), the documentary features rare first-hand accounts from individuals and families, some of whom have since passed away. As I bambini della Grande Guerra demonstrates, the war brought violence and atrocity as well as a strained cultural exchange. The documentary screened at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2018.

Bettero’s director credits also include Bullies in the KitchenThe Lace, a Venetian Art, and Carlo Goldoni: Venezia, Gran Teatro del Mondo.
