John Landgraf, chief executive of FX Networks, criticized the dizzying array of content available during yesterday’s Television Critics Association media event in Beverly Hills. By the end of this year, there could be a record-breaking 430-450 scripted TV shows, in comparison to the 210 that were on-air during 2009, according to FX’s research department. The massive growth, largely driven by streaming services such as Amazon, Hulu and Netflix, concerns Landgraf, who pointed to the uncertainty of cable’s future, declining ratings and fatigued viewers.
