San Francisco, California-based OpenAI is backing Federation Studios’ first AI-made theatrical animated feature. The Paris-based production and distribution company is producing the film through its London-based Vertigo Films division.
Critterz has a $30 million budget and is scheduled for completion in time for next year’s Cannes Film Festival. To produce the feature, Vertigo teamed up with Culver City, California-based creative agency Native Foreign and will use human actors for the voices.
Critterz, the brainchild of Chad Nelson, a creative specialist at OpenAI, follows the adventures of forest creatures and is the adaptation of the popular 2023 short of the same name.
