Ultra-conservative U.S. TV news outlet Newsmax has filed an antitrust lawsuit against conservative FOX News. Newsmax accuses the conservative media giant of abusing its monopoly power to suppress its right-leaning competitors.
The suit accuses FOX News of exclusionary business practices such as structuring deals with cable and satellite platforms that require them to carry other, less popular FOX-owned TV channels in their most popular packages if Newsmax is included in the same package.
Newsmax is a right-wing cable news channel founded in 1998 by conservative journalist Christopher Ruddy. Currently, Newsmax reaches 60 million U.S. TV homes.
FOX News is the leading U.S. cable TV news channel, winning the ratings game against CNN and MSNOW on the political left, and Newsmax and One America News Network on the political right.
