In 2025, 91 years after DuBose Hayward wrote Summertime and the Living is Easy (musically arranged by George Gershwin), summer has become a busy month, as VideoAge‘s August/September Issue — soon to be posted — can attest.
Why has our summer become so busy for the international entertainment industry? Perhaps it is because this period coincides with the Venice Film Festival, MIP Africa, TIFF, and preparations for the Jornadas, MIPCOM Cannes and NAB Show NY.
This upcoming VideoAge Issue also features a great story about Desi Arnaz, titled “The Great Talent Behind I Love Lucy and Modern Television.” Plus, the My 2¢ editorial deals with “the present and future outcomes of international TV trade shows [which] will be assessed by looking at the number of advertising pages in TV trade publications, which can also attest to the level of success of exhibiting companies.”
In terms of reviews, the Issue reports on the challenges facing the Central and East European trade show NATPE Budapest and its surprising outcome. Following the main front cover story about the African TV industry, readers will find an African TV overview compiled with data generated by Michel Zgarka, president of Canada-based HITLAB Group of Companies Inc. The main story was penned by Bruce Rabinowitz, a New York City-based independent distributor with extensive TV business experience in various parts of Africa.
In terms of previews, VideoAge‘s summer Issue touches on the Venice Film Fest’s firsts and its continued starring role, the fact that Toronto’s TIFF is expanding by adding features and distancing itself from the Venice Fest, and that Argentina’s Jornadas wants to reaffirm its South Cone TV trade show status. Naturally, since ours is an industry of world travelers, the Issue concludes with a story apply titled, “2025: A Year of Air Travel Disruptions With Four More Months To Go.”
It’s clear that reading VideoAge can once again make summertime living easy.
