The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present New York governor Andrew Cuomo with the International Emmy Founders Award for his COVID-19 television updates.

On March 2, 2020, governor Cuomo held his first media briefing concerning the coronavirus pandemic. With a total of 111, the briefings were aired by New York local television stations, on national networks, as well as other news networks around the world. Governor Cuomo will be presented with the award during the International Emmy Awards on November 23, 2020.

Bruce L. Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy, commented, “The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure. People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back.”
