Netflix gave a series order to Archive 81, a horror series inspired by the original podcast of the same name.
From creator and showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine, Archive 81 follows archivist Dan Turner as he takes a mysterious job of restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994. In the process of reconstructing the work of a documentary filmmaker’s investigation into a dangerous cult, Dan becomes convinced he can save the filmmaker from events that took place 25 years ago. The cast includes Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi.
Executive producer Rebecca Thomas will direct half of the season. Alongside Sonnenshine, James Wan and Michael Clear will also serve as executive producers. Creators of the Archive 81 podcast, Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell, will serve as co-producers.
