Canadian production and distribution studio Breakthrough Entertainment has inked a deal with ITV to bring L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables to the U.K. The two-hour film (produced by Breakthrough in association with Corus Entertainment’s YTV) is based on Susan Coyne’s original script. Martin Sheen plays Matthew Cuthbert, part of a sibling duo who mistakenly adopt Anne Shirley to help out on their farm. Despite wanting a boy, the Cuthberts are drawn to Anne’s spirit. The film has also been picked up PBS in the U.S. and ARD in Germany.
