This week at the Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland’s Interior Minister Alain Berset unveiled plans to bolster Swiss cinema’s role on an international level. Berset said that the Interior Ministry issued a new regulation in July to promote the presence of Swiss filmmaking with a budget of $2.9m (CHF2.8m). The funds will go towards distribution, increasing Swiss participation at festivals, markets and award ceremonies, in addition to training Swiss filmmakers. Berset said that further measures will “support the visibility of Swiss films, improve their access to the international market and position Switzerland as a shooting location.”
