Discovery Communications and Liberty Global will each pay $195 million for 5 million Lionsgate shares, giving each company 3.4%. John Malone, Discovery’s biggest shareholder and chairman of Liberty Global, took a 3.4% stake in Lionsgate in February, and currently serves on the board. Both companies will gain licensing rights with Lionsgate, which has the Twilight and Hunger Games franchises. This deal is a step in Lionsgate’s international branding, and follows the company’s partnership last year with Chinese e-commerce site Alibaba.
