The Walt Disney Company made an agreement with MLBAM, the Major League Baseball Advanced Media company, to acquire majority ownership of BAMTech, a direct-to-consumer streaming technology and marketing service. Disney agreed to pay $1.58 billion dollars for an additional 42 percent stake in BAMTech; Disney previously held a 33 percent stake. In addition, the Walt Disney Company will be launching an ESPN-branded multi-sport video streaming service in 2018. In 2019, the company will be launching a Disney-branded streaming service, effectively ending its distribution deal with Netflix.
